Volkswagen T4 Devon Moonraker 2 Camper Model History

Circa 1993 Devon introduced their first model based on the Volkswagen T4 Transporter platform and called it the Devon Moonraker 2 (previously there had been Devon Moonraker models base on the the VW T2 Bay Window platform and the VW T25 / T3 platform). I believe that it was available only in hightop roof version. The interior had cupboards along the side behind the drivers seat and the rear seat converted into a 3/4 width double bed.  Note that during the production period of this model various changes were made to the specification including changes to upholstery materials, electrical control panels, furniture design etc. Where possible I will try and show examples of any updates and the approximate date of any change in the descriptions below.

3) Volkswagen T4 “Devon Moonraker 2” Colour Options

As far as I know the VW T4 Transporter Devon “Moonraker 2” was initially available in 1 colour.

T7T7 Grey White R902 (Grauweiß) (with white roof)

Devon would also do the conversion on second hand vans and customers vans so it is possible to see Devon VW T4 campers in other colours.

4) Volkswagen T4 Transporter Devon “Moonraker 2” Camper Furniture Specification

1) Drivers seat.

2) Passenger seat.

3) Forward facing seat with storage cupboard underneath. Seat pulls out to make a large double bed.

4) Centre leg table.

5) Rear storage area and gas cylinder locker

6) Stainless steel sink with tap controlled electric pump.

7)Electrolux three way (gas / 240v / 12 volt) refrigerator. Fridge has a small freezer box. 

8) Two burner stove with heat shield and grill. Note I believe later models had a three burner stove.

9) Rear Wardrobe.

Side sliding door.

Rear opening barn doors (Unusal as most campers at the time had rear lifting tailgate).

5) Volkswagen T4 Transporter Devon Moonraker 2 Hightop Roof Specification

Fully upholstered bed at the rear of the high top roof.

Instead of the rear roof bed at some point it was possible to specify an extra storage locker.

Above the drivers cab there was a storage locker in the roof.
