Volkswagen T4 Devon Aurora Camper Model History

Circa 1995 Devon introduced their second model based on the Volkswagen T4 Transporter platform and called it the Devon Aurora. It was available in hightop and poptop roof versions. The cab had swiveling driver and passenger seats. The rear had two front facing seats in the lounge area. Behind the lounge area was a walk through kitchen area with units either side and a raised fridge. The front facing rear seats combined with the front cab seats folded flat to form two single beds. Note that during the production period of this model various changes were made to the specification including changes to upholstery materials, electrical control panels, furniture design etc. Where possible I will try and show examples of any updates and the approximate date of any change in the descriptions below.

3) Volkswagen T4 “Aurora” Colour Options

As far as I know the VW T4 Transporter Devon “Aurora” was initially available in 1 colour.

T7T7 Grey White R902 (Grauweiß) (with white roof)

Devon would also build the conversion on second hand vans and customers vans so it is possible to see Devon VW T4 campers in other colours.

4) Volkswagen T4 Transporter Devon “Aurora” Camper Furniture Specification

1) Swiveling Drivers seat.

2) Swiveling Passenger seat.

3) Two forward facing rear seats with storage underneath.

4) Portaloo box that doubles as a buddy seat.

5) Front and rear seats fold flat to form two single beds.

6) Rear kitchen area with two burner cooker and stainless steel sink with tap controlled electric pump. Worktop with cupboard and drawer space underneath.

7) Raised Electrolux fridge with rear wardrobe alongside.

8) Gas locker for 2 x 907 cylinders below the fridge.

8) Mains hookup and auxiliary battery.

9) Side sliding door.

Rear opening barn doors (Unusual as most campers at the time had rear lifting tailgate).

Above the drivers cab there was a storage locker in the roof.

Pull out child bed at the rear of the high top roof.
